CONCORD, N.C. — The cheering crowd at Charlotte Motor Speedway swelled to thousands. Booms reverberated throughout, and an indiscernible voice permeated the infield as a live band did a sound check. It would have been a good day for a race. But on this day the speedway filled with something much more profound than the roar of stock cars — Vietnam veterans from across the state came to receive a long overdue homecoming celebration....
